Awards Night MC

Nerves, Recognition & Fun!

Awards Nights are all about recognition, suspense and celebration. The finalists are nervous, the sponsors are watching, the CEO wants everything to run perfectly and somewhere in the room somebody is hoping tonight will be their night. My job is to build anticipation, create excitement and make every winner announcement feel like it matters. Because it does. Whether it's a sales awards night, industry awards, employee recognition program or a black-tie gala, I love helping create those moments when a name is read out and the room erupts.

I don't shoosh my guests...

What many guests don't realise is how much preparation goes into making an Awards Night look effortless. Before the event, I'm working closely with organisers to ensure scripts, presentations, award categories, music stings and audiovisual cues are all perfectly aligned. I take the time to understand the culture of the organisation, the hierarchy within the room, who will speak, who won't, and which traditions need to be respected. I also work through the choreography of the night, from how winners reach the stage to where photos are taken and how quickly we can move to the next category without losing momentum. As a professional entertainer, I use humour and audience engagement to keep the room focused. I try never to shoosh guests. I'd much rather have them stop talking because they don't want to miss what happens next. A clever joke, a spontaneous interaction or a well-timed set piece can be far more effective than demanding attention. When the audience is engaged, the energy stays high, the sponsors get better exposure, the winners feel genuinely celebrated and the whole evening simply works better.
